About the Author
He writes two very different series. The first, The Inspector Truchaud Mystery Series, features a French policeman based in Paris but closely involved in the family vineyard in Burgundy. Cartmel, a lifelong wine buff, introduces fascinating details of viticulture and wine-making alongside his well-plotted, charming crime cosies.
The first three novels in the Truchaud series are set in the small Burgundy village of Nuits-Saint-Georges. The fourth takes the French Inspector to the Rhineland vineyards of Boppard, to investigate the murder of a colleague.
The second of R.M. Cartmel’s series, North Sea Noir, is a long way from Truchaud’s ‘wine and crime’, both in tone and geographically. The first book in the North Sea Noir mystery series is 50 Miles from Anywhere (first published under the name Michael Cayzer), which describes in harrowing detail the dark underbelly of contemporary Peterborough over the course of four days. North Sea Rising (coming out July 2018) is the second in the series.
